Forma part de la Costa Vermella. Cervera de la Marenda (en francès Cerbère) és un comú del Rosselló, a la Catalunya Nord, que administrativament pertany al departament francès dels Pirineus Orientals i a la regió de Llenguadoc-Rosselló. Al lloc que avui ocupa el comú de Cervera s'han trobat nombroses restes prehistòriques, també, és citada en documents tant de l'Edat Antiga com de l'edat mitjana, però serà al segle XIX quan la història de Cervera farà un tomb radical. El 1864 se signà un acord entre Espanya i França per fer passar pel coll dels Belitres el ferrocarril entre els dos estats i de construir les estacions frontereres de Portbou i de Cervera. L'estació fou inaugurada el 1878. El trànsit ràpidament va assolir una gran importància i donat la diferència d'amplada de les vies espanyoles i franceses va fer necessària la construcció de grans instal·lacions per facilitar el transbordament de mercaderies. Va créixer considerablement la població i el 1889 es va crear la comuna de Cervera que no va parar de créixer fins ben passada la mitat del segle XX quan la mecanització de moltes tasques, la competència d'altres mitjans de transport i més endavant la supressió de les barreres duaneres va suposar una certa reducció dels llocs de treball. El paper econòmic de l'estació de Cervera continua essent força importat, malgrat tot, com ho testimonien els 2,5 milions de tones de mercaderies (1998) o els 15.000 trens anuals que hi transiten. It is part of the Costa Roja. Cervera de la Marenda (in French Cerbère) is a commune of Rosselló, in Northern Catalonia, which administratively belongs to the French department of the Eastern Pyrenees and the Languedoc-Roussillon region. In the place that today occupies the common one of Cervera have been numerous prehistoric rest, also, it is mentioned in documents as much of the Old Age as of the Middle Age, but it will be in Century XIX when the history of Cervera will make a radical turn . In 1864 an agreement was signed between Spain and France to pass through the Belitres pass the railroad between the two states and to build the border stations of Portbou and Cervera. The station was inaugurated in 1878. The traffic quickly became very important and given the difference in width of the Spanish and French roads, it was necessary to build large facilities to facilitate the trans-shipment of goods. The population grew considerably and in 1889 the commune of Cervera was created that did not stop growing until well into the middle of the 20th century when the mechanization of many tasks, the competition of other means of transport and later the suppression of Customs barriers meant a certain reduction in jobs. The economic role of the Cervera station continues to be quite important, however, as witnessed by the 2.5 million tonnes of merchandise (1998) or the 15,000 annual trains that pass through it. Also worthy of note is the increase in tourist activities. |
