Summary

Description

Camogie team at rear of Waterford Courthouse, Waterford City, Ireland, 17 October 1915.

Description From NLI Commons:

Here is Miss Hookey of Bank Lane, Waterford with her Camogie team. This photo had been up here for over a year without us knowing which was Miss Hookey, until cjkavana identified the young woman sitting on the ground (left) as Monica Hookey of "1 Bank Lane, Waterford. She died in Welling Kent in 1977. She was my grand Aunt."

From the 1911 census, we knew that Miss Hookey was either Maud, Monica or Ann who were 19, 17 and 14 respectively in 1911 - hence 23, 21 and 18 by the time this photo was taken, but it is really fantastic to have positive identification of Miss Monica Hookey by a family member.

We were initially unsure of the location in Waterford, and what was interesting was that the photographer/developer has scratched out all the signs and posters on the wall in the background. Even at high res, only the word FARMERS is still legible on one of the posters... However, thanks to dec1798, we now know that this photo was taken at the back of Waterford Court House.
