Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Buckeye High School (Louisiana)
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) Visually demonstrates a) the visual appearance of the Buckeye Three, b) the support they had from the community and the school in defying the segregation order, and c) the presence of reporters in the background indicates the level of media interest in the situation. Overall the photo helps to encapsulate the situation for the reader.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
The controversial situation occurred in 1981. The visual appearance of the Buckeye Three is presumably very different from when they were teens. Furthermore, the photo captures a specific historic situation, and could not be re-created equivalently in a staged, free photo.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) Use of the file at the Buckeye High School article to illustrate the situation. Is the only non-free file in use in that article and is not higher-resolution than necessary.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
Photo was primarily newsworthy in 1981, at the height of the controversy. Wikipedia is not competing with The Town Talk's objective of presenting local news, as it has been over 30 years since the events of the photo. Photo was posted in a gallery publicly hosted by The Town Talk and The Sheboygan Press, so it was not taken from behind a paywall or subscription area against the owners' wishes. Photo is clearly credited to The Town Talk.
