Description

Bailey Doogan’s 1984 triptych "Punch Ponders His Role And Wonders If ‘Bad’ Is Still Charming; On the Other Hand, Judy Maintains Her Sense of Humor" is part of Doogan’s Punch and Judy series, and the image reveals her use of abstraction, bright colors and multi-panel presentation that is characteristic of her early, expressionistic work. The image depicts a violent scene based on the well-known puppet show: Punch with his slapstick, a battered Judy lying naked on the ground and Hector, the horse, exhaling his last breath.
