English: Asher B. Bates (1810–1873) served a number of offices in Detroit including Maypr 1838. He then married the sister of a former missionary who was chief minister of the Kingdom of Hawaii, and became the Registrar of Conveyances and effective Atttorney General 1849-1859, then a bankruptcy judge in San Francisco.
