Français : L'armée américaine débarque un canon de 155mm dans la baie de Gahi à Wallis. Les Américains installent une base à Wallis à partir du 28 mai 1942. "Cette photo publiée dans Life Magazine de New York le 22 août 1942 montre le déchargement d’une pièce d’artillerie tractée par bulldozer sur le rivage de Gahi, district de Mu’a. Un autre bulldozer en vue arrière, à droite du cliché, laisse apparaître son immatriculation au US Marine Corps. Cette photo, offerte par les Vétérans américains à la ’Uvea Museum Association de l’île Wallis, donne une idée visuelle du choc provoqué dans la population wallisienne par le débarquement d’engins et de matériel inconnus avant la guerre." English: US army onloading a 155mm coastal artillery gun in 1942 in Gahi Bay, Wallis island. US army took control of the island alongside Free French forces on 28th May 1942. This picture was published in Life Magazine in New York on 22nd (or 24th ?) August 1942, without disclosing the location. Original caption : "A 155-mm. coast artillery gun, weighting more than 12 tons, is brought ashore. In a landing against force, such guns are brought ashore after the Marines have established a beach head and pushed the enemy back far enough to make landings safe. But as soon as airfields are seized or constructed, Navy fighter planes are rushed to garrison them."
