Title
A fragment of a medieval lead alloy pilrgim badge from the Rood of Grace at Boxley Abbey dating to the 15th century.
Description
English: A fragment of a medieval lead alloy pilrgim badge from the Rood of Grace at Boxley Abbey dating to the 15th century. The fragment contains the torso, head and part of the legs of Christ, with a single arm (left) nailed to the cross. There are trefoil decorations at the elbow and the waist. The reverse is hollowed out at the torso and flat in the rest. There is no evidence of the pin or catchplate on the reverse.

Rood of Grace badges are depicted in Spencer (1998, no. 180), and the convex chest and stomach of Christ of this badge is similar to them. Spencer dates these badges to the 15th century, so a similar date is suggested.

Dimensions: length: 28.72 mm; width: 21.52 mm; thickness: 2.82 mm; weight: 1.97g.
