Summary

Description
English: A day at the Aylsham Show - cow no. 9/57 Rules and regulations of modern-day livestock production demand for every animal to be accounted for and hence recorded, marked and numbered. Sheep commonly wear eartags but animals whose wool is not regularly shorn are often also freeze branded. This method kills the pigment-producing cells in the hair follicle and when the hair regrows where the brand was applied, it is white. Freeze brands work best on black, dark red or red animals as seen here on the backside of a Holstein Friesian cow.

After last year's absence due to restrictions in context with an outbreak of Bluetongue disease (catarrhal fever), a great number of sheep, goat and cattle breeds were again presented at this year's show.

The 62nd Aylsham Show is a traditional one-day agricultural show, held in the grounds of Blickling Park, a National Trust estate. It took place on August Bank Holiday Monday. With an average attendance of 15,000 visitors, it is considered to be the largest of its type in East Anglia and organisers were hoping to be able to match the £40,000 surplus income that was donated to local charities last year.
