Summary

Description

A U.S. Marine Corps Douglas A-4M Skyhawk (BuNo 159491) from Marine Attack Training Squadron 102 (VMAT-102) "Skyhawks" dropping two napalm canisters over a mountain area.

Note: The National Archives give the location as "New River (North Carolina)" and the date "7 December 1998". The date must be wrong, as the A-4M was phased out in 1990. The type of painting also dates the photo to the 1970s. Also, VMAT-102 was stationed at MCAS Yuma in Arizona, which does look more like the countyside depicted, much in contrast to North Carolina.
