English: Lockheed Martin installed the Langley-built MEDLI on the backside of MSL's aeroshell/heat shield. At almost 15 feet in diameter the aeroshell is the biggest ever built for a planetary mission. MEDLI is made up of two kinds of instruments (with seven sensors of each kind) that are installed in 14 places on heat shield. It will gather engineering data on aeroheating by using sensor plugs and pressure ports embedded into holes drilled in the spacecraft's aeroshell.
Polski: Na wewnętrznej stronie osłony termicznej Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), Lockheed Martin zainstalował zestaw czujnków MEDLI. Z prawie 5 metrową średnicą osłona termiczna MSL jest największą, jaką kiedykolwiek dla misji planetarnej zbudowano. MEDLI składa się z dwóch rodzajów instrumentów (z siedmiu czujników każdego rodzaju), które są zainstalowane na osłonie termicznej w 14 miejscach. Zestaw będzie gromadzić dane dotyczące ciśnienia i temperatury za pomocą gniazd i portów czujników ciśnienia osadzonych w otworach wywierconych w osłonie termicznej statku kosmicznego.
