Description1949 Hudson Commodore 8 four-door with Kool Air at 2015 Macungie show 3of4.jpg
English: 1949 Hudson Commodore 8, a full-sized four-door sedan featuring Hudson's step-down design that allowed it to be lower than contemporary cars, as well as better handling because of a lower center of gravity. It has Hudson's 254.4 cu in (4.2 L) straight 8 engine. This car also has an aftermarket external window mounted "Kool Air" (branded) unit. This is an evaporative cooling system, also known as a "desert cooler" because it worked best in dry conditions. Air is forced through a water saturated pad to cool the car's interior. This design is also known as "swamp cooler" because it only added humidity to the passing air. Picture taken at the 52nd Annual "Das Awkscht Fescht" antique car show in Macungie, Pennsylvania.
