Summary

Description

1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom I, coachwork by Windovers. On display at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, presented by Gaj Singh Ji of India.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom was the replacement for the Silver Ghost. Built from 1925-31, the Phantom had a larger engine than the Silver Ghost and used pushrod-operated overhead valves instead of the Silver Ghost's side valves. Like the Silver Ghost, the Phantom was constructed both at Rolls-Royces' Derby factory in the United Kingdom and at a factory in Springfield, Massachusetts in the United States, differences between the US and UK models included wheelbases and transmissions. Only the chassis and mechanical parts were produced by Rolls-Royce. The body was made and fitted by a coachbuilder selected by the owner, such as Windovers, Barker, Park Ward, Thrupp & Maberly, Mulliner, Hooper and the Italian coachbuilder Zagato. The American Phantoms bodies were built by Brewster & Co., which was owned by Rolls-Royce. Engine; 7668cc OHV 6 cyl
