Description15-04-19 008 Modern fish tug, AMANDA MAY on Lake Erie.jpg
English: Modern fish tug, AMANDA MAY - MMSI 316045045, coming off Lake Erie into harbor at Port Burwell, Ontario Canada on April 19, 2015.
Fish tugs typically moor in harbor at night on the Great Lakes. The shallow draft of the low, wide steel hull is helpful in entering shallow, silted ports on the north side of Lake Erie. The boat has a full electronics package, 'sprayhood' bow, and full stern enclosure to protect against rough weather which can come up suddenly on the Great Lakes.
The pilothouse is raised and midship over the engine. Sliding stern gangways allow trap catches of walleye and yellow perch to be winched aboard. Side windows provide light for the working area in the stern. Side gangways allow easy access for unloading fish and loading ice at the dock.
