Executive producer Adam Shaheen drew inspiration from Cordell Barker's NFB animated short film The Cat Came Back, in which an increasingly desperate man tries to get rid of a cat, with increasingly destructive results.[2][3] They intentionally avoided dealing with specific negative incidents, "the obvious sound bites and stuff that have been well-recorded," instead focusing in on the "circus" aspect.[3] The film focuses on sight gags,[3] and does make some references, like walking into a object, a Toronto Star newspaper, and a video tape marked "Ford".[4]

The 90-second film was produced by a crew of 10 people in two weeks.[3] Ford was invited to the studio, but did not respond.[3] Two figures of Ford were created, and both of them have been saved for a possible follow-up.[3] There was reportedly interest from Canadian and American broadcasters for debut rights;[5] the studio was weighing offers before deciding whether it would have a broadcast or web debut.[6][7]

No Ford Nation edit

No Ford Nation is a campaign by a group against Mayor Ford, that created a series of animations using actual audio clips of Ford, pared with animation. Many outlets noted its visual style was similar to Family Guy.

The campaign also posted false campaign signs, with candidates promising things like to not get caught on camera, when publicly urinating. The website of Esquire magazine described it as "the most effortless smear campaign in the history of politics."[8]
