Mehdi Bahman (Persian: مهدی بهمن) is an Iranian storyteller, illustrator and researcher in the field of approximation of religions.[1][2][3] He is the author of the story collection "Sarmaye Ostokhan Sooz"[4] and has gilded the Torah, Psalms and Bible.[5] He was arrested during The Mahsa Amini protests on October 11, 2022 and face execution.[6][7][8]

Bahman was arrested during The Mahsa Amini protests on October 11, 2022 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.[9][10][11] According to Farzad Seifikaran, a journalist and his close friend, Bahman was arrested following a public interview with the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation and was sentenced to death by the Islamic Revolutionary Court on December 24, 2022.[12][13][14] In this court session, he was deprived of the right to have an appointed lawyer and was only able to visit his family once during the detention period.[15][16][17]

- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel issued a statement condemning his death sentence. In this statement, they also said that:
"Mehdi Bahman, an Iranian writer who was a defender of religious dialogue, has been sentenced to death just because he gave an interview to an Israeli news agency."[18]
- Julien Bergeton, a senator of the French Senate, took over Mehdi Bahman's political sponsorship.[19]
- A group of writers and civil activists, including Shirin Ebadi, Asieh Amini, Alireza Roshan and Ali Abdollahi, requested Pope Francis to protest the death sentence of Mehdi Bahman in a letter.[20]
- Ronak Publishing made the book "Sarmaye Ostokhan Sooz" written by Mehdi Bahman available to the public free of charge in line with supporting the right to freedom of expression and opposition to issuing the death sentence.[21]
