Denis Lebedev (born August 14, 1979), is a Russian professional boxer from Stary Oskol. He is the former WBA Cruiserweight Champion.

      Professional career

Lebedev turned pro in 2001. In 2009 he beat Cuban Eliseo Castillo who holds a win over Michael Moorer but was not highly-regarded. Lebedev then managed to KO former WBO titleholder Enzo Maccarinelli. In 2010 he also KOd 2005 amateur world champion Alexander Alexeev by one-punch knockout KO2. This guaranteed him a shot at Marco Huck's WBO title.

      Lebedev vs. Huck

Lebedev lost to Huck on the 18th of December 2010 in Berlin by a very controversial split decision, when both the Dutch and the Spanish referee had Huck with 115-113 in front, while the US referee scored it 116-112 for Lebedev.[1] After the fight, Marco Huck claimed that he was boxing with a broken rib from the 4th round on.

      Lebedev vs. Jones Jr.

In May 2011, Denis knocked out Roy Jones, Jr. with 2 seconds left in their 10 round bout. The controversy arised when Lebedev blatantly sucker-punched Jones, when it was absolutely clear, that Jones did not respond and in blackout. The final punch put Jones on canvass and did not regain his senses for more than 5 minutes amid active medical help.[2] After bout, Lebedev said that he has nothing to sorry about.[3] The referee was also accused for incompetence.[4] Roy Jones when asked about his feelings on the sucker-punch has respondented "I forgive him".[5]

      Lebedev vs. Guillermo Jones

Denis Lebedev was left with a shocking eye injury after losing his WBA world cruiserweight title to Guillermo Jones. By the end of the bout, he could not see out of the injured eye but two judges had him winning 96-94 while the third had scored the bout 97-93. It was called in the eleventh round.
