Club ANZAC Game

The Club ANZAC Game is the name given to the two annual Rugby league football matches played on Anzac Day, 25th April each year between four National Rugby League clubs.

The first game is played between the Sydney Roosters and St. George Illawarra Dragons and the second match, normally played later in the day, is contested between the Melbourne Storm and New Zealand Warriors.

History of Club ANZAC Game

The Roosters vs. Dragons match has taken place since the 2002 season, and the Storm and Warriors have clashed on this day since 2009. Both are now permanently fixtured to commemorate Anzac Day.[citation needed] These games generally have crowd numbers of 20,000 - 30,000 attending each game, with a record of 40,752 attending the Dragons vs. Roosters game in 2013. The Sydney game is played at the Sydney Football Stadium (except in 2008 where it was played at ANZ Stadium) and the Melbourne vs New Zealand game is always played in Melbourne, and has been played at AAMI Park since 2011. The player judged man-of-the-match in the Roosters vs. Dragons Club Anzac game has been awarded the "Spirit of ANZAC" medal since 2009.[1]
