Carex stricta is a species of sedge known by the common name Tussock Sedge.[1] The species also bears other common names such as Bowles golden sedge[2] and Tufted sedge.[3]

Description

The species are grass-like, that can be difficult to distinguish from other plants, due to the fact of their triangular, long, and green coloured stems. The plant grows in moist marshes, forests, and near water edge.[4]

It grows up to {{convert/{{{2}}}|2ft|0|||||||r=re|d=LoffAoffDbSoff|s=}} tall and {{convert/{{{2}}}|2ft|0|||||||r=re|d=LoffAoffDbSoff|s=}} wide. When leaves die, they build on top of or around the living plant, making a "tussock".[4]

The leaves are of bright yellow colour, and are striking during spring.[2]

Seeds

Just like with Taraxacum plants, their seeds are carried by the wind. When seeds land, they could be pecked by various birds such as Dark-eyed Junco, Northern Cardinal, Wild Turkeys, and different kinds of ducks including Mallard and Wood Duck. Aside from birds, the seeds are loved by squirrels and other forest or meadow dwellers.[4]

Other then the seeds the plant can be grown with the help of rhizomes, and that way, form a colony.[4]
