Cape Cornwall School is a comprehensive school in St Just in Penwith, Cornwall, England. As of January 2012[update], the school had 421 pupils aged 11 to 16 years. The headteacher is Julie Nash.
The school
The UK Government awarded specialist Arts status to the school in 2006.[1] The funding, which amounts to over £300,000 over four years, started in September 2006, and was spent on an art gallery 'for the school'. The Creative Arts department are pioneering the new 14-19 Diploma of Creative Media.[2]
In December 2010, Cape Cornwall School's History department was inspected by Ofsted and assessed as outstanding.[3]
Julie Nash assumed Headship in September 2011, taking over from the predecessor, Brett Elliott. She said that "the opportunity to lead Cape Cornwall School on its continuing journey of success is a privilege. To have been selected to do this and trusted with its guardianship in the coming years is an opportunity that I am thrilled to undertake."[4]
In May 2012, it was announced that Cape Cornwall School had reached the final four for the 'Cook For The Queen' competition at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.[5]
Cape Cornwall School is in the process of joining the 'Penwith Education Trust' to gain 'Cooperative Trust Status'.[6]
In 2012, Cape Cornwall School received funding from The Belling Foundation, a charitable trust from the electronics firm Belling, to improve their ICT suits.[7]
In September 2012, a new school uniform was introduced: a blue blazer with white shirt and blue striped tie. The uniform was democratically voted for by the students, staff and parents. The new uniform was made compulsory for all 2012 Year 7 students, and is being slowly introduced in other years.
Cape Radio
In September 2012, it was announced that a school internet radio station was being organised. 'Cape Radio' launched on Monday 19 November 2012,[8] which can be accessed globally via the school website.[9] Cape Radio broadcasts half hour live shows during lunchtime from 1:35 pm (GMT / GMT+1 for BST).
