The black snake mackerel, Nealotus tripes, is a species of mackerel-like fish in the family Gempylidae.[1] It is oceanic fish found worldwide in both tropical and temperate waters. Their maximum reported length is 25 cm, with a common length of 15 cm. They make diel vertical migrations from mesopelagic depths to the surface at night.[2]
