Ben Dowdell (born 27 September 1988 in Nowra, NSW) is an Australian rules footballer who currently plays for the Adelaide Crows in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was a former US college basketballer who was a member of the 2007 Australian U/19 Men's team that finished fifth at the 2007 World Championships recording just one loss in the tournament. He is the brother of current Cairns Taipans forward Jeff Dowdell. He is known for his sense of humour, where he regularly takes questions not so seriously.[1] Dowdell was regarded by many writers as one of Australian basketball's brightest talents,[2] and has been named in several All Star and Merit teams.

In October 2011, the Adelaide Crows expressed interest into signing the former basketballer through the AFL's 'Alternate Talent' program for the 2012 season. The AFL accepted the lodgement and he will now join the current squad the 2012 season.[3] He spent the 2012 season playing for South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), playing mainly in the reserves, but was selected three times in the league team.[4]
