Anar (Persian: انار, also romanized as Anār)[3] is a city in the Central District of Anar County, Kerman province, Iran, and serves as both capital of the county and of the district.[4] Anar means pomegranate in Persian. The city contains a Sassanian castle named Anar Castle.

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 12,791 in 3,227 households, when it was in the former Anar District of Rafsanjan County).[5] The following census in 2011 counted 13,089 people in 3,660 households,[6] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Anar County.[4] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 15,532 people in 4,660 households.[2]
