An American Affair is a Canadian film created in 1997. The movie is based on writings by Judd Laurance and Arshad Shah, and was directed by Sebastian Shah and stars Corbin Bernsen, Jayne Heitmeyer, former Bond girl Maryam d'Abo and Robert Vaughn. The movie was shot in Montreal.
The plot deals with the politically ambitious district attorney Sam Brady (Berensen) who has a rivalry with a federal senator and frames his son as drug dealer. He also falls in love with two women - Barbara (d'Abo) and Genevieve (Heitmeyer) - who are close friends with each other. After she falls pregnant he marries Barbara, however the pregnancy results in a still-birth. Being caught by his now wife in the act of having sex with Genevieve he accidentally kills his wife in the ensuing argument, and buries, together with Genevieve, her body on a downtown construction site. In the end, it turns out she is alive and well and was co-operating with Genevieve and the senator; however, this is an intransparent part of the plot.
For Sebastian Shah, who did some cinematography work a decade earlier, this remained the only excursion into directing.
