Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television Award for Best Achievement in Direction

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television presents an annual award for Best Achievement in Direction to the best work by a director of a Canadian film. From 1980 until 2012, the award was presented as part of the Genie Awards ceremony; beginning in 2013, it will be presented as part of the new Canadian Screen Awards.

Statistics

• Most wins: David Cronenberg is the most successful director in the award's history, with five wins. Denys Arcand and Denis Villeneuve are tied for second place with three wins each, and Bob Clark, François Girard and Atom Egoyan have each won the award twice. No other director has, to date, won the award more than once.
• Women: Three women — Micheline Lanctôt, Sandy Wilson and Sarah Polley — have won the award to date.
