London part

Kensington and Chelsea

The Brompton to Fulham section starts at the A4 road by Brompton Oratory and Victoria and Albert Museum, and follows Fulham Road South West to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where it jumps south a block to join Kings Road.

Hammersmith and Fulham

In Hammersmith and Fulham the A308 is called New Kings Road, before it meets the A219 road in Fulham, close to Putney Bridge.

London, Surrey and Berkshire part

Kingston Upon Thames

The Richmond Park to Bisham section starts at the Robin Hood Gate roundabout, which is the junction of the A3. It is called Kingston Vale and Kingston Hill until it goes past Kingston Hospital, where it becomes London Road. After going through Kingston upon Thames, the road crosses the River Thames at Kingston Bridge.

Richmond Upon Thames

The A308 in Richmond upon Thames is called Hampton Court Road, Thames Street and Upper Sunbury Road. It runs between Bushy Park and Hampton Court Park and passes Hampton Court Palace, before going on through Hampton, with a prominent waterworks, and then exiting the London area.

Surrey

As Staines Road East, the A308 goes past Kempton Park Racecourse to meet Junction 1 of the M3 and the A316 at Sunbury-on-Thames. It then continues, as Staines Road West and the Staines By-Pass, on dual carriageway past the Queen Mary Reservoir to Staines-upon-Thames, where it goes back to single carriageway to cross the Thames again at Staines Bridge, and the M25 motorway at Junction 13, north of Egham.

The road then continues in a north west direction, as Windsor Road, passing Runnymede, with its distinctive meadows and memorials, before leaving Surrey and entering Berkshire.

Berkshire

In Berkshire, the A308 first serves the town of Old Windsor, where it is called Straight Road. It then goes on past the north end of Windsor Great Park, where it is called Albert Road, and through Windsor. In Windsor, the A308 is called Osborne Road, Goslar Way and Maidenhead Road. Finally, after going past Bray, where the road is called Windsor Road and Braywick Road, and through Maidenhead, the A308 continues under the names of Gringer Hill, Furze Platt Road and Marlow Road, before terminating at the A404 road near Bisham.
