2000 Dakar Rally also known as the 2000 Paris-Dakar Rally was the 22nd running of the Dakar Rally event. The event began in January 2000 in Senegal and ended in Cairo.[1] It had been re-routed to avoid Mauritania following an armed robbery of competitors in the 1999 rally.[1] A stage of the rally between Niger and Libya was cancelled following a reported terrorist threat.[1][2] Competitors were airlifted from Niamey airport to Libya where the rally was restarted at Sabha.[2][3] The rally was won by French drivers, Jean-Louis Schlesser and Henri Magne.[4] The motorcycle title was won by Richard Sainct.[5]
